Abstract
507,459. Steam - engine valves. BREWER, C. E. Aug. 17, 1938, No. 24223. [Class 122 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVIII] A rotary valve for con. trolling inlet and exhaust of steam engines comprises a rotary member c formed with a radial slot h extend. ing throughout its width and adapted to connect, in turn, opposed inlet ports f and exhaust ports f<1> in the end walls of the valve casing to a peripheral casing port leading to the cylinder a by a passage j. The pair of opposed inlet ports fare connected by a bifurcated passage to the inlet d, and the pair of exhaust ports f<1> are similarly connected to the exhaust e, so that the axial pressures on the valve are balanced. In a modification, either the inlet or the exhaust may be led to or from the valve through a peripheral passage in the valve casing, instead of through a pair of opposed end ports.
