Abstract
422,408. Valve gear. WOLSELEY MOTORS (1927), Ltd., and TOWLER, C. O., Drews Lane, Ward End, Birmingham. Aug. 31, 1934, No. 25063. [Class 7 (vi)] In a radial-cylinder engine having the valves actuated by tappets in which the clearance spaces are supplied with oil or other liquid under pressure, the oil &c. is supplied to the tappets of the several cylinders through a common annular passage disposed within the crank case, or a compartment adjacent thereto. The annular passage may be formed as shown at 8, in the face of a partition 10 of the crank case, and is closed by a plate 12 with which the tappet guides 6 may be integrally formed. The tappet shown comprises telescoping parts 1, 2, forming a clearance space 7 to which the oil has access through ports 21, 22 and annular space 23, when the tappet is in its inoperative position. Inlet and supply pipes are connected to the passage 8 on opposite sides of a plug fitted across the passage. The tappet part 1 is prevented from rotating by a tongue 24 engaging a groove in the cam-actuated rocker 5 ; or it may be free to rotate and have an external groove in communication with the port 22. Specification 411,409 is referred to.
