Abstract

185,893. Norman, J. M., (Representative of Norman, G. H.). July 6, 1921. Tappet mechanism for engine valve-gear and other apparatus. A plunger 2 is fitted within a barrel 1, a non-return valve 3 being provided to admit oil or other liquid under pressure by means of ports 7, 5, 4 to the underside of the plunger so as to allow the valve to be opened with a no-clearance effect and to close with a clearance effect. During the opening of the valve by the cam, some liquid leaks past the plunger to ports 9, 10, allowing a slight clearance, which is again taken up by fresh supply of liquid.
