Abstract
507,243. Centrifugal gas - cleaners. THUILLARD, L. Dec. 21, 1937, No. 35349. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1936. [Class 23] Gases are cleansed from impurities by being subjected to centrifugal action anc then to passage through a decelerat ing zone before being discharged to the at mosphere. The appar atus employed is shown attached to a smoke stack 1; it consists of a main conduit 2a attached to the stack and ter minating at its upper end in three return bent passages 2 which open into the chamber 3. The centrifuga action in the curved path and the deceler at ion in the chamber 3 cause the solid impurities in the gas stream to drop to the inclined floor 5 and the discharge pipe 6. The upward flow of the gas to the space beneath the cowl 10 is deflected by baffles 8, 9 which slope in opposite directions and have flanges to retain any light solids tending to follow the gas. The baffles 9 can be moved by means of chains 11, 12, and the rods 14 can be rocked against the baffles 8 so that particles collected on the baffles can be made to drop. The clean gas can be passed through an axial discharge pipe instead of being discharged under the cowl.
