Abstract

507,086. Opening rags, waste, nock, &c. REDGWICK, J., and WRIGLEY, E. Jan. 18, 1938, No. 1593. [Class 120 (i)] In a machine for tearing or opening rags, waste, flock, &c. the length of the feed rollers between the bearings is decreased and the rollers made smaller without loss of rigidity by the employment of housings 1 for the feed rollers 2, disposed as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Each housing is rebated for part of its width on the inside face so as to project over the face of the swift. If feed rollers of the same diameter are retained the swift may be made of a wider working surface. Each upper feed roller bearing 4 is loaded by a spring 5 through a bent rod 3. The feed apron passes over a roller 6 driven from the lower feed roller through toothed wheels 7, 8, 9 the jockey wheel 8 being carried on a stud fixed to a plate 10. Each housing 1 is adjustable by a screw 11. The bearing 14 for the " bitter roller 13, i.e. the roller which returns to the feed sheet material not efficiently openedby the swift, is mounted on a casting 15 and is adjustable by a screw 16.
