[Class 37] [Also in Group XXXV] In a cathode-ray tube in which at least one pair of deflecting plates 3, 3<SP>1</SP> is provided, these plates are adjustably biassed relatively to each other by connecting them through resistances 16, 18 across an adjustable potentiometer 12, 14 supplied from a source 9. The mean potential of the plates relatively to that of the accelerator 2 is kept constant by connecting this electrode to a tapping on a resistance 17 shunted across the supply to the deflecting. plates. Deflector plates 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, further from the accelerator 2 than the plates 3, 31, are also adjustably biassed through resistances 15, 19 and a potentiometer 11 although no means are provided for tying their mean potential to that of the electrode 2. If desired, however, such means may be provided. Undesirable effects due to beam current reaching the accelerator 2 and producing a P.D. in the resistance 17, are prevented by a screen electrode 7 of smaller aperture than the electrode 2 placed before it in the path of the ray and connected to + H.T. Specifications 466,770, 469,394, [both in Group XXXV], 478,200; and 500,809, [Group XL], are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 479,003.
