Abstract
554,172. Valve generating circuits. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). Jan. 9, 1942, No. 376. [Class 40 (v)] In a valve circuit for supplying current to the deflecting-coils of a cathode-ray tube, the anode circuit is branched so that only a small adjustable fraction of the direct supply current passes through the coils, the branches being so proportioned that the deflection current is not distorted. Saw-tooth voltage is fed to the control grid 3 of the valve, and the resulting sawtooth current in the anode circuit divides between the branch comprising an adjustable resistance 6, the deflecting-coils 7, and a large condenser 8, and a second higher-impedance branch comprising resistance 9, choke coil 10, and condenser 11 across the HT supply. Distortion is avoided by making the ratio of inductance to resistance the same for both branches. A variable resistance 14 always high compared with the resistances 6, 9 is connected between HT+ and the junction 12 of the coils 7 and condenser 8, which junction is connected to the screen grid 13 of the valve. By suitable adjustment of the resistance 14 the screen-grid can be given the same voltage as the mean anode voltage, and no direct current then passes through the coils 7. Adjustment of the resistance 15 on either side of this value controls the direction and the amount of direct current in the coils, and permits correct positioning of the spot on the screen of the cathode-ray tube.
