[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] An oscillatory system for supplying current to a discharge lamp 7 from a D.C. source 2 comprises at least one thermionic valve 6 with filament or cathode 4 energized through a resistance 5 in the positive supply lead, with grid 8 connected to one electrode of the lamp 7, and with the anode 3 connected to one end of the primary of a transformer 1, the other end of the primary being connected to the positive lead while the other electrode of the lamp 7 is connected to the secondary of the transformer. In a modification, Fig. 3, two thermionic valves 6, 6a are combined to form an amplifier. Condensers 9, 10 and switches 11, 12 may also be provided, the condenser being brought into the circuit when the switches are moved to the left. This is stated to produce a chain effect involving the appearance of fixed or moving rings in the lamp.
