Abstract

499,428. Drying systems. FRANCIS, E. L. (Buttner Werke Akt.-Ges.) Nov. 25, 1937, No. 32584. [Class 34 (ii)] Loose materials such as coal, alfalfa, turnip tops, &c., are dried and conveyed by a gaseous current drawn through a system of up- and down-rising tubes 6, 7, 9 by a fan 15, even distribution and disintegration of the materials in the gaseous stream being ensured by a suitable means, such as a paddle wheel 18, eccentrically and rotatably arranged in the bend 8 connecting the pipes 7 and 9. Sufficient free space is left in the bend above the paddle wheel to allow part of the gaseous stream and finer particles to be byepassed. The materials to be dried are flung into the lower part of the pipe 6 by a centrifugal machine 2, and the dried material falls into a separator 11 from which the finer particles are blown into a cyclone 14 by the gaseous stream which is byepassed to the separator through a pipe 13. The heavier particles in the separator are re-supplied to the system behind the paddle wheel 18 by a pipe 19. The material to be dried may be circulated through the plant a number of times. Specification 252,200, [Class 34 (ii)], is referred to.
