Abstract
553,891. Sifting-apparatus. LEWIS, W. H. May 22 1942, No. 6991. [Class 117] Apparatus for extracting dust from crushed coal comprises two concentric screens 1, 2, the inner of which has a large mesh relatively to the outer, and perforated pipes 8 provided alongside and below the axis of the outer screen whereby steam or air is blown through the screen to prevent dust escaping with the small coal. The two grades of coal retained by the screens are delivered either into separate bins or a common bin, and the dust is blown into the atmosphere or collected by a fan and container. The small coal passing through both screens is delivered to a bunker under the screens. The inner screen is supported from the shaft 13 by arms 14, and the outer screen is supported from the inner by arms 12. The combined screen is supported on rollers 4 preferably so as to incline from the charging end downwards to the open delivery end.
