Abstract
753,378. Glass and other fibres. HOGANAS - BILLESHOLMS AKTIEBOLAG. March 26, 1954 [March 31, 1953], No. 8864/54. Class 56 In making glass, slag or other inorganic fibres by dropping the melt on to a rapidly rotating disc 6 from which the fibres are thrown off, the latter are then subjected to a downwardly directed air stream which forms them into staple fibres and then to a more horizontal air stream whereafter they are coated with a liquid binder or lubricant. The first air stream is formed by blades 16 formed between the overlapping portions of two cones 8, 10 of different angles mounted on the shaft 26 of the disc 6. The second air stream is formed by blades 24 beneath an annular flange 22 at the bottom of the cone 10. The binder or lubricant is admitted by a pipe 20 to a space above a plate 18 within the cone 10 and escapes down the inner wall of that cone through apertures around the plate 18.
