Abstract

780,328. Agglutinated fibrous materials. HOGANAS BILLESHOLMS AKTIEBOLAG. May 31, 1954 [May 30, 1953], No. 16031/54. Class 140. Self-sustaining units are made from molten mineral material, e.g. glass, by projecting the molten material as fibres from a rotating centrifuging body, the fibres being detached and carried away by a gaseous blast near the periphery of the body, the ejection point of the blast performing a continuous limited reciprocating swinging movement about the axis of the body, and a binding material carried in a liquid or gaseous material, or both, is applied to the fibres with, and in substantially the same direction as, the gaseous blast. The fibres may be collected on a moving conveyer positioned within a suction box, as a mat, a continuous string, a tube-like product. As shown, a rotatable disc 1 has disposed adjacent its periphery a ring 3 on which is adjustably mounted nozzle-bearing means 4 for producing a blast of air and a stream of finely divided binder material. The nozzlebearing means 4 is caused to perform a continuous reciprocating swinging movement within an arc 5 having the rotation axis 2 of the disc 1 as its centre, by suitable means.
