Abstract

Hydrocarbon emulsions are loaded with a filler by admixing and stirring together an ordinary emulsion of a hydrocarbon such as bitumen or asphalt and a stable suspension of the filler in water obtained with the aid of a colloidal mineral body such as bentonite to which a suitable electrolyte, e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide or carbonate, is added. Suitable fillers include limestone, slate or carbon, and examples are given relating to each of these fillers, dispersed with the aid of colloidal clay and sodium carbonate.ALSO:Hydrocarbon emulsions are loaded with a filler by admixing and stirring together an ordinary emulsion of a hydrocarbon such as bitumen or asphalt and a stable suspension of the filler in water obtained with the aid of a colloidal mineral body such as bentonite to which a suitable electrolyte, e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxides or carbonate, is added.
