Abstract

The ignition point of carbonaceous, liquid or colloidal fuels is reduced by mixing therewith ,1-3 per cent of the product known as waste gypsum obtained from the acid treatment of phosphate rock and containing phosphate. Clay or other aluminous compounds are preferably removed from the phosphate rock from which the material is to be obtained. The material may be added as a colloidal or stabilized suspension in oil. A small amount of trisodium phosphate may be included by neutralizing the contained acid with sodium carbonate. The proportion to be added is usually 1/4 -\ba1/2 per cent for liquid hydrocarbons and 1/4 -1 per cent for colloidal fuels.
