[Class 91] [Also in Group XII] A mineral or other oil to which an alkyl aminophenol has been added is used for scrubbing coal gas and similar gases in the recovery of light oils for instance benzene, the formation of sludge being prevented or reduced. Preferably the para compounds are used and either the mono- or di-alkyl body is suitable, but the ortho compounds may be used although they are less effective. From .005 to 1 per cent. of the aminophenol compound is used and the oil is heated after use and returned to the scrubbing operation. Specification 535,148, [Group XII], is referred to.
