Abstract

535,148. Materials for purifying gases. KODAK, Ltd. (Tennessee Eastman Corporation.). Jan. 24, 1940, No. 1440. [Class 55 (ii)] A mineral oil to which a hardwood distillate has been added is used to scrub coal gas, and other gases, for the recovery of light oils such as benzene. The hardwood distillate is that boiling between 200‹ and 300‹C., and its production is referred to in U.S.A. Specifications 1,975,090, 1,975,091, and 2,017,147. As a scrubbing oil creosote oil which distils between 200‹ and 300‹C may be used, and 6 per cent of the hardwood distillate is added, preferably a portion each time the mineral oil is returned to the scrubbing operation, the mineral oil being heated for recovery of the light oils between the scrubbing operations. An oil other than a mineral oil, but having the same characteristics may be used.
