Abstract

1354173 Furfural compositions BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 21 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 34158/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Compositions comprising furfural and an additive as resin formation inhibitor, which is a furfural-soluble primary, secondary or tertiary alkylamine or alkanolamine boiling between 130‹ C. and 200‹ C. and present in an amount of 1 p.p.m. to 10% by weight based on the weight of the furfural, e.g. tri-n-propylamine, dibutylamine, ethanolamine or N,N<SP>1</SP>-diethyl ethanolamine may be used in the solvent extraction of petroleum fractions. The composition may also comprise a higher boiling point resin formation inhibitor, e.g. a long chain alkyl amide amine or alkanolamine present in an amount of 1-1000 p.p.m. by weight based on the weight of the furfural.
