Abstract

499,298. Universal joints. HARDY, SPICER, & CO., Ltd., and HARDY, J. L. Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25076. [Class 80 (ii)] A coupling-member is built up of three units each comprising a forged steel segment 11, having a housing 12 in which is vulcanized an axially arranged rubber bushing 13, the bore of which is secured to axial bolts 18, fast to one shaft-spider 20, the segments having offset lugs 15, which are rigidly secured together and to the other shaft-spider 16 by axial bolts 17. Dowels locate the segments during assembly. The rubber bushings 13 have grooves 14 in their end-faces, and are lined with vulcanized metal bushings 19 which are secured to the bolts 18.
