Abstract
474,581. Universal joints. HARDY, SPICER, & CO., Ltd., and HARDY, J. L. May 1, 1937, No. 12460. [Class 80 (ii)] Axially-arranged rubber bushings 14, carried in cylindrical housings formed on shaft-yokes 18, are engaged internally by pins 13, secured to an intermediate coupling-member 20. As shown, the latter comprises a pair of rings 20, secured to each side of the bushings by the pins 13. In modifications, alternate pins 13 are secured to opposite sides of a coupling-disc, which may be flat, in which case the bushes are not coplanar transversely of the coupling, or the disc may be suitably cranked so that the bushings are maintained coplanar. The bushings may be vulcanized to external and /or internal metal liners 19, and are each retained in their housings 18 by a circlip 17. The ends of the inner liners 19 may engage recesses in the rings 20, to assist in torque transmission, and the rings may be formed as dished metal pressings which substantially enclose the bushings.
