372,406. Universal joints. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd., Gunnersbury House, Hounslow, Middlesex, and PENN, O. S., Malew, Lower Hampton Road, Sunbury-on- Thames. Jan. 5, 1931, No. 18797. [Class 80 (ii).] A universal shaft coupling, particularly for the cardan shaft of a motor vehicle, comprises a cylindrical housing 50, which may be free, or as shown, is attached to the gear-box shaft 49, and, within the housing, one or more blocks 55 which engage the end of the other shaft and are maintained in compression by flanges 53, adjusted by bolts 54. In the floating housing form, not shown, the block engages the ends of both shafts. The surfaces with which the rubber contacts may be grooved or irregular.
