Abstract
338,667. Dehn, F. B., (Manning & Co.). Oct. 8, 1929. Universal joints.-A double Hooke's joint, suitable for front-wheel drives in motor vehicles, comprises shaft sections 1, 2, which engage by a ball- and-socket joint 8, 6, provided with a leather &c. cover 9, and have each a yoke 12 pivoted thereto on a fixed pin 19, the yokes having integral trunnions 16 carried in bearings 25 on an intermediate hollow annular member 22 of relatively short axial length. The member 22 is pressure-charged through a nipple 27 with lubricant, which feeds by passages 17a, 18, 17 to the bearings 25, 15 of the trunnions 16 and pins 19, dust-tight discs 21<a>, 21 being provided. The bearings 25 are formed in blocks 23, spigoted at 26 to the ring 22 and secured together by long bolts 24.
