Abstract

653,977. Universal joints. UNITED ENGINEERING & FOUNDRY CO. Aug. 12, 1948, No. 21291. Convention date, Sept. 3,1947. [Class 80 (ii)] A double Hooke's joint has two intermediate members 14 each with multiple axial ribs 27, 26 slidingly interengaging coacting ribs on a driving or driven shaft member 15 and a coupler 11 respectively. The coupler 11 has bolted thereto end flanges 18 with oil seals 21 coacting with the members 15. The coupler is in two halves bolted together to facilitate assembly during which the interior of the joint is packed with grease. In Fig. 6 (not shown) both sets of ribs on the intermediate members are on the exterior thereof, the coupler being unitary and cut away to allow internally ribbed axially extending flanges on the shaft members to coact with the intermediate members, and the flanges 18 and seals 21 being omitted.
