Abstract
398,074. Yielding couplings. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd. and RING- QUIST, J. M., Teesdale Iron Works, Thornaby-on-Tees. Dec. 28,1932, No. 36711. [Class 80 (ii).] A yielding shaft coupling, which also accommodates misalignment, comprises shaft-flanges 3 having a single circular row of axial apertures 5 housing flexible, one-piece, cylindrical rods 6 secured to one of the flanges as by nuts 7 the apertures in at least one flange being of tapered or parabolic form 4, corresponding to the bending-movement curve of the rods. The apertures are of circular cross section and have cylindrical end portions. The joint is enclosed in an oiltight casing having inturned positioning-lips 8 engaging lips 9 on the flanges.
