Abstract
495,123. Safety razors. WARD & SONS, Ltd., T. June 19, 1937, No. 17110. Convention date, June 19, 1936. [Class 30] Relates to safety razors of the type in which a guard plate, between which and the back plate a blade is clamped, has a mushroom-headed spindle engaging spring jaws displaceably mounted in the razor handle. A handle 1 of tubular form carries a back plate 2 between which and a guard plate 3 a blade 4 having the usual indexing holes is clamped. A central boss 5 of the plate 3 has a mushroom head 7 adapted to be engaged behind spring jaws 8 on a sleeve 9 displaceable within the handle 1. This sleeve is forced down to clamp the blade by a relatively strong spring 15 bearing on a socket 17 and on a flange 18 of the sleeve. In this position the jaws 8 lie within a constricted part 16 of the socket 17 and are prevented from spreading. Within the sleeve 9 is a plunger 10 with upper bevelled end 13 adapted to engage bevelled parts 14 on the jaws. The plunger is actuated against the force of a spring 12 bearing on a flange 19. To withdraw the blade, the end 11 of the plunger 10 is pushed in until the bevelled end 13 meets the jaws. Further movement pushes up the sleeve 9 until the jaws pass the constricted part 16 and are spread apart by the thrust of the bevelled end of the plunger. The head 7 is thus disengaged from the jaws and the blade can be removed. To re-insert the blade it is placed on the plate 3, and the head 7 is inserted between the jaws 8 and pressed so as to force down the plunger 10 until its bevelled end leaves the bevelled parts of the jaws 8 which then spring inwardly under their own elasticity and grip the head under the action of the spring 15.
