Abstract
148,248. Thomas, A. B. Jan. 17, 1918, [Convention date]. Razors, safety. A device for holding the blade during stropping or honing comprises a longitudinally slotted member having blade-holding parts 4 and a handle 4a, formed from two parts secured together by a tubular rivet 6 or by other means, or from a single slotted piece of metal, and having the blade-holding parts secured together by a loosely fitting rivet 7 serving also as a hinge for a cap 8. The blade-holding parts are arranged to spring apart on raising the cap, and to be forced together when this is closed down, this action being brought about by bevelling the holder at 4<c> and bevelling the cap at 8<a>. The cap has an operating lip Sb and a spring friction catch 8<c>, and the holes for the rivet 7 are in the form of downwardly and backwardly inclined slots,. whereby, on forcing down the cap, the spring 8<c>, coacting with an inclined shoulder 4<e> on the holder, draws the cap towards the handle and causes the rivet to move down the slots, thus securing a wedging action at both ends of the cap; on raising the cap the blade-holding parts are allowed to separate. To adapt the device for single-edged blades with backing pieces, a slot or channel 10 is formed in the holder.
