Abstract
414,477. Safety razors. GILLETTE SAFETY RAZOR CO., 15, West 1st Street, Boston, U.S.A. May 1, 1933, No. 12670. Convention date, May 27, 1932. [Class 30.] The clamping - plate 34 and guard-plate 10 are interconnected by a slide action, which permits bodily longitudinal rectilinear movement of the clamping-plate to uncover the blade 46 and also permits the plates to approach or recede from each other to flex the blade over fulcrum shoulders 14 of the guard. One end of the clamping-plate 34 is connected by a neck 36 with a flanged slide 38, underlying the guard and engaging a grooved guide 22 movable in a forked part 18 between the integral guard and handle 20, the guide being riveted to an internal handle plunger moved axially by an end nut 32. One end of the guide 22 is turned over to form a lip 28 adapted to overlie a lip 40 of the clamping-plate, so that by turning the end nut 32, the clamping-plate 34 is drawn down evenly from both its ends to flex the blade. The slide 38 at one end carries a transverse pin 37, which abuts against stop-pins 25 in the guide 22 to limit outward travel and also forms a hinge-pin to allow the clamping- plate to fall away into the position shown in Fig. 6. During blade-flexing, the slide 38 is locked against all but perpendicular movement by engagement of a pin 44 with a hole 42 in the slide. The sliding and tilting movement of the clamping plate may be effected by gravity after the simultaneous release of the bladetension and the locking-pin 44. The slotted blade is located by diamond-shaped pegs 16.
