Abstract
430,030. Safety razors. GILLETTE SAFETY RAZOR CO., 15, West 1st Street, Boston, U.S.A. Dec. 12, 1933, No. 34973. Convention date, Aug. 2. [Class 30] A safety razor of the clamped blade type has means whereby cap sections 44 can be folded inwardly from opposite sides of the guard 10 to meet over the flexible blade 60 or its supporting surface on the guard and then moved as a unit towards the guard in a direction perpendicular thereto to clamp the blade, a reverse operation of the said means serving to unclamp and then uncover the blade. The cap sections 44 have lateral arms 46 pivoted at 48 to transverse end bars 42 of a carrier also comprising integral L- shaped parts 38 passing through notches in the guard and joining the bars 42 to a raised crossbar 36 which locates the blade 60 transversely in the clamped position and engages a slot 20 in the guard 10. Cams 50 on the arms 46, coaxial with the pivots 48, are engaged by pins 52 in notches in the guard through which the arms 46 pass, after the carrier and the contiguous cap sections 44 have been raised by a rod 30 operated by a nut 26 forming part of the handle. The rod 30 is united to the crossbar 36 and keyed to the head 22. The pins 52 cause the cap sections to pivot apart and finally rest on grooves on the guard teeth. During this stage, the bars 42 raise the blade 60 from the guard so that it may easily be replaced or removed for cleaning. The blade has the usual slot with enlargements which enable pins 58 on the guard to locate it longitudinally. The end guard teeth may have outwardly widened parts which act as stops for the cap sections and also as fulcra enabling the sections to be brought together again when the carrier is screwed down.
