UNITED-STATES ARTHUR O. PETERSJN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SAFETY-RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Application filed November To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. PETERSON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety- Razor-Blade Holders, of'which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a holder for the blades of safety-razors for use in honing and stropping the same and the object thereof is to provide a holder into which the blade can be easily and quickly inserted and from which it can be easily and quickly removed. A further object is to provide a holder in which a blade will be securely held in the proper position for honing and stropping.
In the drawings forming a part of this application I have illustrated my holder applied for blades of the Gillette type. 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an enlarged edge View ofthe blade holding end open to receive a blade, which I call the head. I Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of Fig.
1 on the line 3-3. Fig. 4 is an end view of Fig. 2 viewed from the line H. Fig. 5 is an edge View of the blade end with the blade positioned for use.
Referring to the drawings the device primarily consists of a tubular handle 10, preferably of thin pipe of the desired size and a head. The head consists of the base 11 which is integral with the handle and is a continuation thereof with one half partially severed and a part is bent to be in a plane that passes through the longitudinal center of the handle and forms a jaw 12. In jaw 12 are pressed two blade lugs 13 which enter holes 1% in the blade 15 when the blade is positioned for use. The other portion of the head is a clamp which is an opposing duplicate of that portion which is united to the handle and the upper part is marked 16 and for distinction is called the clamp base andthe lower portion is marked 17 and for distinction is called the clamp jaw. The clamp jaw has pressed out portions like jaw 12. In all forms the base and jawsare of the same form except 7.1921. Serial "No. 513,263.
rivet 19. After a blade is positioned on'jaw .12 the clamp is positioned as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 and a catch 21 which may be pivotally connected to jaw 12 or to jaw 17 is brought to a position toholdthe jaws from separating as best shown in Figs. 5, 6. The blade is then honed. or stropped as desired in the usual manner of honing or stropping the ordinary razor blades. By this construction a smooth back is provided which enables the holder to be turned on the strop in the same manner that an ordinary razor is turned in stropping and the other edge of the blade is protected. In other forms of safety razor blades suitable lugs are pressed from the jaws to properly hold the blades in the jaws when the blade is positioned and the catch turned. If desired the handle bases and jaws could be stamped from resilient metal and formed up with suitable tools.
It will be seen that by my construction all the parts forming my holder are connected and there is no danger of any part becoming lost.
Having described my invention I claim I .A stropping' device for safety razor blades comprising a tubular handle terminating in one of a pair of clamping members, said handle member having a semicircular base and a blade projecting from one edge thereof, said blade lying in a plane passing through the edges of the'base, said blade having lugs adapted to enter the holes in the razor blade; a second clamping member having a reversely curved base and a blade projecting therefrom adapted when positioned for use to lie parallel to the other blade and spaced therefrom the distance of the thickness of the razor blade, the inner end of said last member beingbifuroated to straddle the handle the outer surfacesof the bases of said handle members being in the same plane as the outer surfaces of the han-.
die, one of said bases being acontinuation of a part o1 the handle; a rivet connecting said last member to the handle; and a catch pivoted to the outer end of one of said clamping members; said catch having a U-shaped end Which When the catch is positioned for use will engage both clamp:
ing members and prevent them from separating.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I 10 have hereunto subscribed my name this 29th day of Oct, 1921.
C. PETER SGN.
