Abstract

494,238. Oil engines. FIEDLER, M. G. April 22, 1937, No. 11525. Addition to 390,190. [Class 7 (iii)] An improved operation of the engine described in the parent Specification, in which a pump piston compresses, on both sides, air charges which are subsequently further compressed by the working piston, comprises injecting the complete fuel charge into the cylinder, in a pulsating manner, after the termination of the supercharging and prior to ignition. The injection period is limited, to an angle of 10‹ or less. The pulsating injection is produced by a chattering valve 25, effected by a small lifting surface 21a and a strong opposing spring, and by making the orifice 20a greater in area than the passage past the valve seat 24 when the valve is fully open. In Fig. 5 seats 31, 32 are formed on both sides of the fuel orifices 34 and the valve is lifted by pressure of fuel in a chamber 30 fed by passages 28 radiating from a space 29. The valve is preferably fed by a large-bore pipe-line from an eccentric-operated large-diameter pump, optimum specific dimensions of the fuel orifices, pipe line and pump being given for a particular engine.
