[Class 31 (i)] An apparatus for severing the crust or outside from bread slices, toasted bread or the like, comprises a block B on which the slice is placed and cutters A arranged, when depressed by the handle X, to pass down over the edges of the block B and sever the overhanging crust. The slice is held upon the block by a presser plate or plates F associated with the vertically reciprocating knives A and urged downwards by tension springs G. The block B is pivotally mounted and is tilted, when the knives are raised, by a cam E reciprocating with the knives, the slice being thus discharged. The ring of crust is broken by a member C moving with the knives, and a co-operating block D. A diagonally arranged knife may be associated with the knives A to form triangular pieces of toast. The knives are guarded by guards H, J.
