Abstract

492,223. Stop-apparatus for yarn or like winding machines. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 30004. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1936. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn or like winding-machine stoppage is effected upon completion of the winding of the package by the engagement of the traverse guide carrier 8 with a lever 55 which is adjustably mounted on a pivoted stop-arm 42 and, when so engaged, is moved into contact with a toothed wheel 84 on the cam-shaft so that the stop-arm is unlatched from the stop lever 35 which is thereupon automatically operated to stop the machine. To ensure a sensitive operation a shoulder 9 on the traverse guide carrier is adapted to engage a cam surface 80 on the lever 55. The lever 55 is in two parts, one, 70, carrying the cam-shaped engaging-surface 80 and the other, 56, being adapted for engagement with the toothed wheel. A coarse adjustment of the mechanism is effected along the arm 42, and a fine adjustment by eccentric mounting of the part 56 and a screw connection of the parts 56, 70. The invention is described as applied to a conventional type of winding- machine, a drop-wire 85 pivoted on the arm 42 being adapted to engage the wheel 84 upon breakage or exhaustion of the yarn to effect stoppage of the machine, and the lever 35 operating to disconnect the spindle-driving clutch and to apply a brake.
