[Class 100 (ii)] In connection with feeler mechanism for stopping printing &c. machines if a sheet is not fed correctly to the front stops of the machine. of the kind in which the sheets act upon a feeler 9 mounted like a pendulum and in which the feeler prevents movement of a detector member 13 when the feeler is not acted upon by a sheet and so actuates clutch mechanism to stop the machine, the normal movement of the detector 13 is caused to give a further movement to the feeler after it has been moved by a sheet so as to prevent it from interfering with the action of sheet-taking grippers. As shown in Fig. 1, the feeler 9 is normally prevented from moving counter-clockwise by a pin 12 on an adjustable bracket 5 in-which the lever arm 19 for operating the detector 13 is also mounted. A sheet before reaching the front stop 11 moves the feeler 9 clockwise and an arm 10 on the feeler shaft releases the detector 13 which in its motion to the left-engages a hump on the arm 10 and moves the feeler further in a clockwise direction so as to be free of the grippers. The whole mechanism can be adjusted longitudinally of a bar 6 mounted between the machine frames. In a modification the detector 13 acts upon the underside of the pivot 8 of the feeler to effect the movement of the feeler, and in a further modification, Fig. 3, the detector is moved to the right instead of the left and a catch 31 on the arm 10 engages a projection on the underside of the detector when the machine is to be stopped owing to non-engagement of a sheet with the detector 9. The further movement of the feeler is effected by the action of a hook 33 on the detector upon a pin 34 on the feeler 9. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the detector 9 is combined with a caliper device which also stops the machine if two or more sheets are fed at a time. The sheets are fed under a pivoted gauge bar 40 which rests at its forward end on an underlay 41. A hook 42 on the bar 40 is normally free of a tongue 43 depending from the arm 10 of the feeler 9. If double-feed occurs the action of the sheets upon the tongue 43 prevent the normal movement of the feeler 9 to the dotted line position under action of the fed sheet, and this causes stoppage of the machine.
