Abstract
657,635. Feeding sheets ; printing machines. BACKHOUSE, H. T. Nov. 12, 1948, No. 29451. [Class 100 (i)] A sheet-feeding device for printing &c. machines of the kind described in Specifications 657,616 and 657,618 in which the sheets are registered by the aid of front stops 11a integral with scraper devices 11 which separate the sheet being registered from the overlying sheet which is being removed, is constructed with a feeler member 30 movable with the scraper and formed with a hook 31, which is adapted to engage a hook 32 on an arm 33 mounted on an oscillating shaft 40 if a sheet is not fed at the correct time, and the locking of the arm 33 is adapted to operate a signal or trip the machine. The feeler 30 is normally pressed by a spring to the dotted line position, and is pressed by a correctly fed sheet to the full line position in which the hook 32 is not engaged. One feeler is arranged at each side of the machine, and the feelers may act as front registering devices. The registering device may be fitted with air blast nozzles of the kind claimed in Specification 657,639. The movement of the feelers in a counterclockwise direction may be controlled by a stop which determines the position of front registration of the sheets.
