Abstract

479,028. Brake and-stop apparatus for drum winding-machines. STUBBS, Ltd., J., and MARSDEN, F. July 25, 1936, No. 20621. [Class 120 (ii)] In drum winding-machines wherein the cheese is adapted to engage a brake plate when the cradle 'is moved consequent upon operation of the stop-motion, a stop is provided to prevent pivotal movement of the cradle when it has moved downwards to engage the cheese with the brake. The cradle normally pivots about the pin 2, the lever 9 which carries the brake plate 10 being coupled to lugs 5 on the cheeks of the cradle, and, when it falls to the position shown in dot-and-dash lines, a spring-biassed pawl 13 on an extension plate 11 of one of the cheeks engages the teeth of an arcuate rack 16 and movement of the cradle about its pivot is prevented, whereby continued descent of the cradle causes extension of the bias-spring 14 of the pawl and a wedging action between the cheese and brake.
