Abstract
So that one of a group of flyers can be stopped e.g. for piecing-up, a hand-brake is slidably mounted on a rail running along a length of the frame and can be turned by a handle into position for use with any one of the group. A bracket 6, Fig. 1, not shown is mounted to slide on, but not to turn about, a rail 3 running along a group of flyers. The brake comprises shoes 12, 13 the former mounted on a bracket 15 which can be rotated clockwise by a handle 17 about a pivot 16 against the action of a spring 20, which tends to maintain the bracket clear of the wharves 1, and the latter urged to turn towards the former by a spring 27, but normally prevented from so turning by engagement at 19 with bracket 15. The brake is moved along the rail opposite the wharve 1 it is desired to brake, and handle 17 is rotated clockwise to rotate the bracket 15 so that the shoe 12 is brought against the wharve, and the shoe 13 is released, the shoes being forced apart to slip over the wharve, the springs then causing the shoes to grip. If the wharve stops in an inconvenient position, it can be allowed to rotate slightly by tapping the handle 17 or operating a handle 26. A number of brakes can be mounted on a rail running the length of the machine. A catch may be provided to keep the bracket 15 clear of the wharves.
