An automatic brake adjusting device operating when the vehicle moves in reverse has a ratchet wheel of the extensible strut 25 operated by a member 41 carried on the end of the rod 47, the member being biased by a spring 61 having a semicircular part engaging the strut to support itself thereon. The spring may be of flat strip or formed from wire.
