Abstract

622,578. Lap-forming apparatus. KNOWLES, Ltd., and GODDARD, M. March 28, 1947, No. 8511. [Class 120. (i)] In a sliver or ribbon lap machine, a ratchet wheel a on the brake and rack pinion shaft b is turned to raise the full lap bobbin m, so that the latter can be removed, by a pawl f pivoted on an operating handle d, the pawl being automatically disengaged from the ratchet wheel when the handle is in the out-of-service position shown, to which it is moved by a spring h, the descent of the racks k being then controlled only by the brake. As shown, when handle d is in its out-of-service position an arm g engagesa stop i to remove pawl f from the ratchet wheel a. Shaft b is provided with a pedaloperated brake, which is released while. handle d is moved forward to raise the racks, but is applied when the bobbin is in the raised position.
