Abstract

647,341. Addressing &c. machines. ADREMA, Ltd. May 2, 1947, No. 11864. [Class 100 (ii)] In an addressing or like machine having embossed printing plates fed in succession to printing position and having a lister head 15 advanced intermittently along along a support 18, means are provided which can be coupled to the power drive of the machine to effect return of the lister heat to starting position, and uncoupled therefrom to permit rearward movement of the lister head during the printing operation. As shown, a cord 12 attached to the head is wound on a pulley 7 attached to a wheel 8 mounted on a pivotal arm 5 so that when the arm 5 is moved clockwise by a hand lever 20 the wheel 8 is clutched against a rotating roller 10 and pulley 7 commences to wind the cord 12. The initial pull on the cord 12 moves a slide 14, Fig. 2, against the action of a spring 16 to disengage a pawl 17 from the rack support 18. If the head reaches the end of its travel before the arm 5 is released a spring 19 allows the friction drive to slip. When the arm 5 is released, the slide 14 returns under the influence of the spring 16 to re-engage the rack 18.
