Abstract
968,594. Unwinding webs. RADYNE Ltd. Nov. 28, 1961 [Dec. 2, 1960], No. 41565/60. Heading B6B. [Also in Division B8] A motor-driven wheel 15 drives through an idler roller 14, a wheel 13 mounted on the same axis as a supply spool 7. The idler roller 14 is biased into the bight of the two wheels 13 and 15 by springs 19 and 21. The web 6 passes from the supply spool 7 around a tensioning roller 8 mounted on the end of an arm 9 fixed in angular relationship with an arm 11, and pivoted about the axis 10. A spring 12 biases the roller 8 downwards. The web 6 is intermittently drawn into a packaging machine (not illustrated or described), and when stationary the tensioning roller will drop down so that the arm 9 engages an adjustable screw 18, thus disengaging the idler roller 14 and removing the drive from the wheel 13 and the spool 7. A continuously applied brake 20 will prevent over-run of the spool 7. The idler roller 14 may be regarded as a releasable clutch.
