Web 12 is wound into a roll 23 carried by a tube 15 on a winding shaft 16 by engagement with a roller 5 driven by a wheel 2 through a fibre disc 4 on the shaft 6 carrying the roller 5. The winding shaft 16 is carried by a pivoted arm 18. The shaft 6 is mounted on an arm 8 forming one arm of a two-armed lever 9 having a second arm 10 carrying a counterweight. Alternatively the arm 8 may be urged by a spring pressing the disc 4 into contact with disc 4.
