773,823. Feeding webs. VYZKUMNY USTAV' OBRABECICH STROJU A OBRABENI. Jan. 26, 1955 [March 19, 1954], No. 2361/55. Class 100(1) A device for feeding substantially of equal lengths of web material to a cutting device comprises a continuously rotating unwinding roller an intermittently rotating feed roller, which tends to feed the material faster than the unwinding roller, and a tensioning roller, interposed between the two rollers and spring pressed into engagement with the material, which causes a movement apart of the feed roller and a counter pressure roller in response to a predetermined deflection of the tensioning roller. As shown, a web 33, unwound from a supply roll, not shown by a continuously driven roller 5 co-operating with a pressure roller 10, passes over a tensioning roller 24 and between an intermittently driven roller 7 and a co-operating pressure roller 13. The roller 5 tends to feed the web faster than the roller 7, e.g., by making the roller 7 of slightly larger diameter than the roller 5. While the rollers 7, 13 are stationary the web 33 forms a loop around the roller 24 which is pressed against the web by a spring 25 attached to a lever 23 carying the roller 24. The roller 13 is freely rotatable on a shaft 11 slidable in grooves 12 of an upright 3 and is pressed towards the roller 7 by springs, not shown. When the loop around the pulley 24 is shortened a predetermined amount, a cam 27 on the lever 23 trips a tooth 28 on a lever 29 to rock the lever 29 into engagement with screws 32 on the spindle 11, such that the roller 13 is lifted to permit a small length of web to be drawn by the roller 24, rearwardly through the rollers 7, 13.
