Abstract

806,658. Applying adhesive tape. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. April 9, 1957 [April 11, 1956; June 13, 1956], Nos. 11035/56 and 18268/56. Class 73 Relates to a device for the wrapping of electrical conductor bars with insulating tape, which device may be in the form of a hand tool or as part of a machine for automatically wrapping tape. According to the invention the device comprises a drum 3b, Fig. 1 for holding a supply 4 of tape and a handle portion in the form of a closed storage container 1, for adhesive or adhesive activating material, the container having a spring-loaded piston 9 for forcing the adhesive through a passage 7 to a narrow slit 6 over which the tape is guided by rollers 23, 25 and a spring- loaded pressure bar 11. The bar 11 is connected by tension springs 15, Fig. 3, with threaded members 17 extending through brackets on the sides of the device. The container 1 may be clamped on a machine which is provided with driving means for producing relative movement between the device and conductor bar both rotationally and in the longitudinal direction of the bar so as to provide wrapping of the form shown in Fig. 3.
