[Class 108 (iii)] A piston unit for hy draulic shock - absorber! or the like differential pressure operated damp ing-means comprises a recuperating valve 2( housed in an axial bore 22, 23 in a thickened part of the end wall be tween and to one side of the axis of opposite holes 25 for the gudgeor pin. Inclined passages 29 lead to the underside of the valve which is pressed onto its seat by a spring 27 adjustable by a solid plug 28. The plug is formed with slots 30 adapted to be engaged by a locking- pin 31.
