Abstract

573,301. Shock-absorbers. EZBELENT, G. E. Nov. 7, 1939, No. 29589. [Class 108 (iii)] A hydraulic shock-absorber comprises a cylinder 1 closed at the top by a head 3, a piston 4 on a rod 5 connected to the end connection 18, a partition 2 spaced from the head 3 to enclose a compensating chamber of the same volume as the piston-rod 5 and a conduit 6 mounted on the partition 2 and extending through a hole 13 in the piston 4 into the cylinder. The cover 8 excludes dust from the piston-rod. The end connection 18 has a threaded part 17 adjustable on the end of the piston-rod and the other end connection 11 has a filling plug 10. A disc 12 with aperture 20 closes the circulation orifices of the piston at the end of the stroke forming a hydraulic brake. The conduit 6 has a variable exterior so that at the part 14 the passage of liquid through the piston aperture 13 is made more difficult to vary the damping effect. The head 3 has synthetic rubber packing 22 held in place by a tapered metal packing piece 24 and screwed ring 23 and the piston is fitted with a valve 25 and spring 27.
