Abstract

454,987. Shock-absorbers. ELEKTRONMETAL GES., 26, Pragstrasse, Cannstatt, Stuttgart, Germany. Sept. 19, 1935, No. 26019. Convention date, Oct. 25,1934. [Class 108 (iii)] A shock-absorber comprises telescopic members, one of which consists of concentric tubes 1, 2, the inner tube 2 constituting a hollow piston - rod, while the other telescopic member 4, 5 forms the working cylinder which is closed by a piston-rod guide-bracket 7 and in which reciprocates an apertured piston 9, the arrangement being such that, when the shock-absorber is compressed, an annular space 25 is formed above the piston between the piston-rod and the cylinder 4 into which space liquid flows through apertures 20, 21 in the piston-rod adapted to be opened and closed by the guidebracket 7, while extension of the shock-absorber causes the liquid to be forced from the annular space 25 and through the apertures 20, 21 to resist the movement. The member 4, 5 may be formed as a single tube. As shown, compression of the shockabsorber is resisted by the flow of liquid through the aperture 10 in the piston 9 being increasingly restricted by a conical rod 11. Additional resistance is provided by a spring 8 arranged between flanges on member 3, 6 by means of which the shock-absorber is mounted in position and which contain oilinlet and oil-release openings 18, 13 communicating respectively with the piston-rod and with a conduit 14 in the conical rod 11, which serves as an oil gauge.
