813,703. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. May 9, 1957 [May 17, 1956], No. 15347/56. Class 108(3) A telescopic hydraulic shock-absorber of the type comprising an outer cylinder 102 and an inner cylinder 103 fitted with a sliding piston, includes a leak aperture 100b which may be adjustably preset or adjustable by remote control, and which is arranged at the end of a tube 110 additional to the normal tubes 108 which discharge the hydraulic medium into the annular space between the outer and inner cylinders. A circulation of the medium is effected by the piston action and the action of non-return valves on both compression and rebound strokes; the leak aperture 100b is arranged in the additional tube 110 which extends by an inclined bore 107 from the upper part of the inner piston cylinder 103. The other normal tubes 108 extend from bores 107 directly to the space between the outer tube 102 and the cylinder 103. The adjustment to the leak aperture is made by rotating a spring biased casing 82 by e.g. a Bowden cable, thereby rotating a valve member 111 to adjust the position of a conical valve head 111a in the aperture 100b. This controls the now of liquid via the tube 110, radial bore 100f, bore 100b, counter-bore 100c, and further bores which discharge the liquid into the annular space between outer tube 102 and cylinder 103.
