Abstract

727,574. Hydro-pneumatic shock-absorbers. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1952 [Sept. 7, 1951], No. 21131/51. Addition to 671,925. Class 108 (3). The invention of the parent Specification is modified by the provision of separate orifices 3 (Fig. 1, parent Specification), preferably valved, for normal damping operation. The constructions described in Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), are identical with the constructions described with reference to Figs. 1 and 2 of the parent Specification, except that the valves 4 and 34 in the latter respective Figures are reversed in action, so that they open on the compression, instead of on the rebound strokes. Also, these valves are supplemented by a permanently-open valve-less orifice. The spring c is not separated from the damping liquid. The piston 7 may be orificed, or may be a loose fit in the cylinder 1. In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the construction of Fig. 2 is modified by the spring-biased valve 28 being connected by spindle 40 to a sleeve valve 42 controlling the ports 30. In the Provisional Specification, a similar modification of the spring-biased valve of the Fig. 1 construction is described.
