Abstract

In a high speed tool steel containing 3-20 per cent cobalt, more than 2 but not exceeding 5 of vanadium, 3-6 of chromium, 13-21 per cent tungsten and up to 2 per cent molybdenum, the carbon content depends on the vanadium and cobalt contents in accordance with the equation per cent C=0,75 + 0,09x per cent V-0,02 x per cent Co. In an example, the tool steel contains 0,87 per cent carbon, 0,21 per cent manganese 4,07 per cent chromium, 16,89 per cent tungsten, 0,54 per cent molybdenum, 2,51 per cent vanadium and 4,93 per cent cobalt.
