Abstract

491,399. Two - part couplings combined with switches. PRESTON, W. May 28, 1937, No. 14807. [Class 38 (i)] A coupling for electric clocks &c. has a fuse arranged in the disconnectible member so that it is isolated from the supply leads before access to the fuse is obtained. The disconnectible member consists of a plug 24 with a flange 25 and radiating contacts 28, 33 seated in slots in the plug, the contacts 33 having terminals 32 from which run the leads to the clock &c., and the contacts 28 having clips 29 to receive a cartridge fuse that connects them together. The socket member 10 contains four contacts 12 ... 15, two of them 12, 13 being connected to the supply leads, and the other two joined by a conductive strip 16. The socket contacts consist of resilient strips located around a wall 11 and enclosed by a cover having a central opening with lateral slots for the admission of the plug 24. The plug is inserted in a position in which its contacts do not engage the socket contacts and the plug is then turned, the direction and extent of turning being limited by a flange on the inside of the cover. The plug thus acts as a switch.
