Abstract
491,127. Directive wireless signalling. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Oct. 29, 1937, No. 29664. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] Relates to means for eliminating false " zeros " in a direction-finding system of the kind in which two or more pairs of aerials are arranged in opposition, for the purpose of avoiding " night effect." According to the invention the aerials are all set in the same horizontal plane, so that they can only rotate as a whole. Preferably they are located at a height of at least one-twentieth the working wavelength above ground. The Figure shows a plane of two pairs of horizontal aerials, F1 being coupled in opposition to F3, and F2 in opposition to F4, to a central radiogoniometer G. The individual frames have substantially no directional effect in azimuth and this reduces the usual four-fold ambiguity of double-frame arrangements to a two-fold ambiguity. An auxiliary frame or horizontal linear aerial can be added to give a unilateral or non-ambiguous response.
